Want to know a ‘lil mountain sunset chasing secret?⁣??

Sometimes you need to simply turn around and look to the Eastern mountains to chase the sunset magic.

What?!

Yep, you read that correctly -- sometimes the setting sun casts a pink glow on the mountains in the opposite direction it sets in. This sunset phenomenon even has a name called the Alpenglow, defined as an "optical phenomenon that appears as a horizontal reddish-pink glow near the horizon opposite of the Sun when the solar disk is just below the horizon. This effect is easily visible when mountains are illuminated."

⁣And a perfect example of the Alpenglow is this image of sunset in the Rockies in Colorado from last week!

And into the mountains I go, to lose my mind and to find my soul...because there's just something magical about being in the mountains during sunset as the Alpenglow paints the mountains pink. As I was driving find a good sunset viewing spot, I noticed the sunset was starting to paint the sky and cast a pink glow on the mountains to the East (Arapahoe, Gray, and Torrey mountains). I quickly (and safely) popped a u-turn and luckily found a perfect spot to chase this sunset...and learn firsthand all about the Alpenglow!

So remember, just like your mom and dad taught you, always look both ways crossing the street + while chasing sunsets!⁣!!

Pura Vida,
